Barefoot Birthday cake!

I was so excited that this was my turn to choose the recipe for Barefoot Bloggers. I had such a hard time choosing what I wanted to make. There are so many wonderful recipes that our group has not made yet. Cake was on my mind since I had a birthday this month. I finally let the kids help me decide. They wanted to decorate the Birthday Sheet Cake. Once I started to make the batter I realized how big it was going to be!  I had to make two cakes for parties this weekend and decided to use 4 rounds instead of the big sheet pan. It worked out great this way. I made two different kinds of cakes. The first cake was a carmelized apple filling with caramel frosting. This is my favorite kind of fall cake. The caramel frosting is so easy and tastes wonderful. The second was Ina's way with chocolate ganache filling and frosting. I was a little disappointed in how each cake iteself tasted. I thought the cake was too dense and not moist enough. Not sure what I did wrong. I loved the ganache frosting and could eat this by the spoonfull if my waistline would allow. My daughter had allot of fun decorating the chocolate cake with m&m's. I forgot to bring my camera to the party and didn't get a picture of the finished cake.  Thanks to everyone who decided to bake along this week with me.  You can check out what my fellow bloggers did here.

Susy, I love your idea of using a caramel apple filling and frosting. That sounds delicious and a perfect start to the fall!

Love the sound of your fall variation with the caramel and apple. Sorry I can't say I loved this one. I thought the cake and frosting were disappointing. It was fun to try and my toddler had a ball decorating though. Hope you had/have a wonderful birthday!

thanks for picking this one, I made a 9x13 cake and changed the baking powder to 3/4 tsp. Did not make the frosting as I was making a "golf cake" for my sons birthday. Definitley dense almost pound cake like.

The nice thing about this cake is that it is versatile enough to use different frostings and fillings. Everyone liked it here.

Hi- great looking cake! Mine didn't turn out so well. The frosting was the best part, and I will definitely make it in the future.

The apple & caramel combo are great, great tip with making 4 round cakes to 1 sheet.

I still have not posted mine and I feel sheepish (so few people cooked or adapted along with mine that I swore I'd be religious for everyone's recipes thereafter!), but life went to heck in a hand basket last month. I still plan to get this uploaded eventually! Yours sounds terrific.

Trying New Things

This past year has been a year of change. We moved from a huge running community to an area that does not have the biking and running trails...
