Trying something new

I have a hard time trying new things for the first time. I am not sure if I am afraid of failure or scared that something will happen but I always have to really push myself to get out of my comfort zone. This can be anything from trying a new class to running somewhere I normally don't. Last night we had friends over for dinner and the husband was telling me about some great trail running in a town close to us~http://www.metroparks.org/Parks/SugarCreek/Home.aspx
I decided to give it a try this morning. It was a lovely fall day and perfect running weather. I am so glad I tried this running trail. The trail goes through the woods, along streams and up and down hills. It was perfect for me and I had such a enjoyable run. I just wish that my sister had been with me. This is her kind of place and she would have loved it. They still had some fallen trees from the storms and I had to climb over them to continue on the path. It challenged my body in new ways and got me out of a rut that I easily get stuck in. I have to admit I did get lost at one point. The loop is 3 miles and I was going to do it twice but somehow took a wrong turn along the way. It all worked out in the end and I ended at exactly a 6 mile run. I decided I am going to start trying something new once a week. It doesn't have to only pertain to running.
We had such a good dinner last night that I wanted to share the recipes. Our friends in Germany made this for us one Halloween and it became a favorite Fall menu.
shredded Pork roast
black beans with garlic
salsa
rice
tortillas warmed in oven
chopped cilantro, onions, tomatoes, sour cream, shredded cheese and a big salad with cilantro garlic dressing.
The roast is the best part of the meal. All you do is buy a 3-4 pound roast and season with salt, pepper and garlic, place in roaster pan with lid. Then you melt 1/2 cup butter and pour over roast and put lid on. Cook for 4-6 hours at 275. When it is done it falls apart! I made a warm bean dip as well to go along with us. We have enough leftovers for tonight. I am so glad about that~ I also made a pan of brownies from a new cookbook but they weren't chocolaty enough for me. I probably won't make that recipe again. Sorry no pictures of our yummy dinner.

Your meal sounds great! I didn't get around to making the Creme Brulee this week...just returned last night from helping the Menzie's move in. I've made Creme Brulee before, so I didn't feel I was missing much. I'm looking forward to the yummy recipes for this month! Glad you are enjoying the nice Fall weather!

You got lost! You better be careful! I am glad you enjoyed yourself. You have to now because it will be getting cold soon. This is the best time of the year. I ran outside today too, and I thought of you. I ran around a small lake but it was beautiful with the reflection of the clouds in the water, a few ducks and a heron flying around the water.
So will you share the recipe for your black bean dip? We LOVE black beans, my kids really do. You told me about how to cook the roast with the butter in Germany and ever since each time I make a meat it is wonderful. Thanks!

You are so adventurous, and I'm so proud of you! You made me tear up wishing that I was with you (I assume I'm the sister you were talking about?). :)

I ran 12 miles yesterday here on the ranch and thought of you so many times. I like to think that running brings us closer emotionally even though we're far apart geographically. Keep up the great work trying new things, sis--I'm going to do the same. Please pray for me this week. Busy, and I'm dealing with a few frustrations that I just need to give to the Lord. Love you so much, and thank you for the recipes!

Trying New Things

This past year has been a year of change. We moved from a huge running community to an area that does not have the biking and running trails...
